Este Año Nuevo Chino es el del Conejo, y las celebraciones irán desde el día 2 al 17 de febrero. Son los días del Festival de la Primavera o Guo Nian, tambien llamado Año Nuevo Lunar, en occidente, para incluir a todas las culturas de Asia que se rigen por el calendario lunar.
(This Chinese New Year is the Year of the Rabbit, and the celebrations will take place from February 2 to February 17. These are the days of Spring Festival or Guo Nian, also called Lunar New Year, in Occident, to include all the Asian cultures wich observe the lunar calendar)
• El calendario chino data del año 2600 a.C. Es el calendario más antiguo conocido.
(The Chinese calendar dates back to 2600 B.C. It is the oldest known calendar.)
• El año chino está basado en los ciclos lunares. Un ciclo completo del calendario chino dura 60 años.
(The Chinese year is based on the cycles of the moon. A complete cycle of the Chinese calendar takes 60 years.)
• Aunque el calendario chino tradicional no cuenta los años consecutivamente sino por ciclos, fuera de China los años se han numerado a partir del reinado de Huangdi, el Emperador Amarillo, por lo que al año 2011 del calendario gregoriano le correspondería el año 4709 en el calendario chino.
(Although the Chinese calendar traditionally does not use continuously numbered years, outside China its years are often numbered from the reign of Huang Di, the Yellow Emperor, so the year 2011 of the Gregorian calendar is the "Chinese Year" 4709.)
• El rojo es el color de la suerte en China. De ahí que los vestidos de novias solieran ser de ese color.
(Red is considered a lucky color in China. Hence wedding dresses used to be this color.)
• Según la tradición se debe limpiar la casa a fondo para barrer la mala suerte y dejar sitio a la buena suerte y la fortuna el día de año nuevo. No barras el día de año nuevo pues barrerías la fortuna.
(According to tradition you must clean your house thoroughly to sweep away misfortune and make way for good luck and fortune in the coming year. The old year and its spirits are banished by sweeping the floors before New Year's Day. Don't sweep on New Year's Day itself - you'll sweep away the New Year fortune if you do.)
• La casa debe ser decorada con estelas de papel con las palabras 'felicidad', 'abundancia/riqueza' y 'longevidad'.
(The house should be decorated with paper cutouts of the words 'happiness', 'wealth' and 'longevity'.)
• Los fuegos artificiales de la víspera de Año nuevo ahuyentan al año pasado y las familias abren las puertas y las ventanas a medianoche para que se vaya el año viejo -una costumbre anglosajona también.
(Shooting fireworks on New Year's Eve scares away the old year, and households open up windows and doors at midnight as exits for the old year. An Anglo-Saxon tradition too.)
Espero que tanto para nuestros amigos asiáticos como para todos nosotros, el conejo sea como Rudi, un Gigante de Flandes que pesa 8.6 kg.
(I wish our Chinese friends and all of us that the rabbit of this year could be like Rudi, a Flemish giant rabbit weighing 19 pounds.)
