Feliz Día del Libro 2013 / Happy World Book Day

boy reading As we all know, April 23 is a symbolic date for world literature since April 23, 1616, is the supposed death date of El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and the same day that Miguel de Cervantes, Spain's greatest writer and the author of Don Quixote, passed away. It is also the recorded date of the death of William Shakespeare, although Shakespeare actually died on May 3rd of that yearalthough Shakespeare actually died on May 3rd of that year, according to our Gregorian calendar (not the Julian calendar used in that time in England).

Two of my favourite authors said:

“When you read a great book, you don't escape from life, you plunge deeper into it.”
Julian Barnes

Julian Barnes

“That is part of the beauty of literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong.”
F. Scott Fitzgerald

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Have a nice World Book day.
Feliz Día del Libro.
